Webinar Pilot

MLC is pursuing a webinar type tool. We hope to be annoucing a pilot project soon where you can participate in live video meetings with us. If you are interested in being a part of the pilot, send an email to tcstover@mlc.lib.ms.us and mention you are interested. We need to know three things, 1) you have at least one late model pc or laptop with a web cam, (2) internet explorer browser version 6.00 or higher on that pc or laptop, and (3) a phone you can be called on close to where that pc or laptop is. We will be choosing from that pool of volunteers, but we will most likely pick only those from that pool with the bandwidth, in our opinion, able to handle it. This is neither restricted to legacy (MissIN2) nor MPLS (MissIN3) sites. - Treasure

New E-Readers

Sony and Amazon each have new e-readers. These devices allow for reading digital books in a battery powered unit. While this is not new, some of the features, weight, battery life, and subscription details are. The picture to the right is Amazon's Kindle. Each of these units allow for larger screens, easier reads, and longer battery life.

What to choose for mobility, WAP, Smartphone or PDA?

Do I need a wap phone, internet browser capable phone, smartphone, pda or all of the above? It depends on how you plan to use a device.

If you want a quick way to check your emails, and weather a WAP phone or a phone with an internet browser is probably all you need. If you want to store contacts, calendar information, etc. You probably want either a smartphone or pda (personal data assistant). The difference between a smartphone and a pda is basically the smartphone is a pda with a cell phone included in the device.

Websites, Wikis and Blogs Oh My!

Web sites are your business card to the world. Some feel websites should remain more static, i.e. your picture, your recommended links, information about your company, documents to download, etc. Websites are more about information and "corporate" vision, and approved content. Wikis and Blogs are more about opinions and sharing comments.

Wikis are a way you can collaberate and post articles, ideas, etc. with a bunch of people as editors.

Blogs are a way you can control what is posted, but still allow for collaberative comments, poll taking, and push news.
